Natural Running course started in the 1989 when a Canadian Alexander Teacher, Paul Collins, decided to share his ideas and insights from applying the Alexander Technique to his persistent injury problems. Paul was a marathon runner and competed for his country in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne.
Paul sadly died in the mid 90’s and John Woodward, who taught with Paul for many years continued to research and develop the art of running naturally. John now directs his own Natural Running courses assisted by a small, but dedicated team. Janet Dutton (Alexander Technique Teacher), Tom Urry (film maker and video analyst), Gareth Dennison (graphic designer), Christine Bennett (Course Admin) and Centurion Tom Scriven (social secretary and Guinness expert) have since joined the team and brought their unique contributions to form the Natural Running Team. course origins

Paul gave up running due to knee injuries, he could hardly walk, let alone run. The medical profession wanted to operate and he was told he would never run again. He took a course of Alexander lessons and eventually became a teacher of the Alexander Technique. In his 50’s Paul was able to set ten new veteran world records at marathon distance and 6 day events. Paul, was, and remains, an inspiration for all natural runners.
